No. 22 North Georgia Ends PBC Tournament Run in Championship Game
DAHLONEGA — In the Peach Belt Conference championship game, the No. 22 University of North Georgia women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Columbus State as both programs will split a pair of PBC championships, with the Nighthawks taking the regular season title against the Cougars in the previous matchup.
An early score by Emma Beddow (CSU), her 12th of the season, scoring in the 13th minute to give Columbus State a 1-0 lead. A handball in the box by the Cougars led to a penalty kick for Adleigh Wheeler, as Wheeler placed a shot to the keeper's left to tie things at 1-1.
After the halftime break, Columbus State began to push for the lead as a well-placed free kick ended up in the back of the net as North Georgia attempted a tough clearance before bouncing off a Nighthawk into the North Georgia net.
As UNG began to try to find the equalizer, Brooke Quimette delivered the dagger, scoring in the 75th minute to seal the victory. The Nighthawks await their NCAA Tournament invite next, ranking second in the southeast region in the latest polls.
