DAHLONEGA – The No. 3 University of North Georgia women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a dominant 7-0 win over Georgia College Saturday afternoon. The Nighthawks ended the regular season 20-1 overall and 5-1 in Peach Belt Conference play with the win.

Their 5-1 record puts them in a three way tie for first place in the PBC with No. 14 Columbus State and No. 7 Flagler. While the PBC Tournament rotates hosts every year and this year CSU is hosting, UNG is eyeing the top seed in the tournament as the three way tie is broken based on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings of the three teams. The Nighthawks have led the conference and region with the highest ranking virtually all season and hope to keep the same fate despite a loss to the Cougars on Friday.

As it honored seniors Viktorie Wojcikova, Johanna Lippert, Svetlana Teterina and Valentina Ascarrunz before the match, UNG got off to a hot start in the match with a sweep in the doubles portion.

ITA women's doubles No. 41 Wojcikova and Lippert won 6-3 in the #1 doubles contest and ended the regular season with a 15-5 doubles record.

Teterina and junior Angelin Linnikova won the #2 doubles match 6-2, ending their regular season with a 15-3 record as a duo.

In her final doubles match, Ascarrunz paired with junior Carolina Reis for a 6-2 win. The pair dominated the #3 doubles spot this year for UNG, going 19-2 on the season.

Ascarrunz and Reis rewrote the UNG record books with their win Saturday. As the pair ended the regular season with a 19-2 record, they are both tied for third for the most doubles wins in a single season in Nighthawks women's tennis history. Their .904 win percentage as it stands ranks first all time in school history as the best doubles record in a season.

ITA women's singles No. 7 Linnikova cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 in the #1 singles spot for UNG, while Teterina won 6-1, 6-2 in the #5 singles match to give the Nighthawks a firm grasp of the match.

With Linnikova's win, she ends the regular season with a 19-2 record which also ties her for the third most singles wins in a season in UNG women's tennis history. With just two losses and a .904 winning percentage on the season, it also gives Linnikova the highest singles winning percentage in program history.

Wojcikova took the #2 singles spot, winning by retirement against Bobcat Chiara Santori.

Lippert and Asscarunz each won their singles matches in the #3 and #6 contests to help seal the 7-0 team victory.

The victory sealed the Nighthawks' 20th of the regular season, marking the most regular season wins in program history. It also is currently tied for second as the most wins in a single season in UNG history with postseason play just around the corner.

Head coach Kent Norsworthy and his team will look to continue an already historic season next weekend in the PBC Tournament. The three day tournament gets started Friday, Apr. 26 in Columbus, Ga. Matchups and match times will be announced later this week by the conference office.
