Threlkeld Awarded Exemption To Korn Ferry Tour's Club Car Championship
SAVANNAH, Ga. – No. 2 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's golf senior Hughes Threlkeld will make his Korn Ferry Tour debut in his hometown of Savannah, Ga. for the eight playing of the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club tournament officials announced Thursday.
The 2025 edition of Savannah's official Korn Ferry Tour event is from March 31 to April 6 at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club's acclaimed Deer Creek Course.
"We are excited to welcome Hughes Threlkeld into the field for this year's Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club," said Brit Donahue, tournament director.
"Uplifting the Savannah community is an important mission of the tournament, and we are thrilled for Hughes to be making his Korn Ferry Tour debut in his hometown."
Threlkeld graduated from Savannah's Benedictine Military School in 2021. He has been a member of the UNG golf program since 2021 and helped lead the team to a National Runner-Up finish last season. For his efforts last year, Threlkeld was named a 2024 Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-American honorable mention.
In the fall portion of the 2024-25 season, Threlkeld averaged 71.25 strokes over 12 rounds to help the Nighthawks secure a pair of wins and two top 3 finishes in four fall events. Threlkeld's best tournament came at the Bearcat Fall Invitational in which he posted a 68 (4-under par) and 67 (5-under) in the opening two rounds. He finished at 9-under par overall and in fourth place among 104 golfers.
"I am incredibly grateful to both Club Car and the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club for affording me this opportunity," said Hughes Threlkeld. "To have my first Korn Ferry Tour start in my hometown of Savannah is a dream come true. I'm excited to represent this community and can't wait to tee it up at the Deer Creek Course."
The Korn Ferry Tour is the developmental golf tour in the United States for the PGA Tour. Players can earn PGA Tour status by finishing among the top competitors on the Korn Ferry Tour at the end of the season.
To watch Threlkeld make his tournament debut, fans can visit the Golf Channel as all four rounds of the Club Car Championship will be broadcast live there. The tournament is one of only three regular-season events on the Korn Ferry Tour to air on network television.
