#HawkEm x #HelpEm: How to Support Hurricane Relief Efforts
DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia is a proud member of the Peach Belt Conference, headquartered in Augusta, Georgia and in the wake of Hurricane Helene and the devastation to the southeast region, UNG is encouraging all to support hurricane relief efforts.
The impact of the Hurricane Helene was devasting to our conference office and two member institutions who reside in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), Augusta University, and the University of South Carolina Aiken, and UNG encourages all to support fundraising efforts.
A group of parents and supporters of the North Georgia golf programs have come together to commit to using this week's golf tournaments as a fundraising campaign to help those impacted by the devastation from Hurricane Helene. More specifically in the Augusta community, to the Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area.
"Because of UNG Golf's long relationship with Augusta's Forest Hills Golf Course, the city of Augusta, and because of family connections to the city, we wanted to find a way to support the CSRA Hurricane Relief and thought no better way than to get friends who support UNG golf on board," says Paul Threlkeld, father of senior, Hughes Threlkeld. "UNG men's golf and their supporters can make a sincere and significant contribution to Augusta's relief efforts."
North Georgia has partnered with the Forest Hills Golf Course to host the Peach Belt Conference golf tournament for the last two seasons and is scheduled to host again in spring of 2025.
As the UNG men's and women's golf programs take the course this week, the ask to those who wish to support is to donate a desired amount for every birdie the Nighthawk teams make at their respective tournaments, to the CSRA hurricane relief.
If you would like to participate in the fundraising efforts, we ask that you send all donations directly to the CSRA which can be found here, on Tuesday when the tournaments conclude. We ask when donating as part of the #HawkEmHelpEm campaign, note "UNG Golf Birdies" in the Gift Guidance field.
You can follow along on social media using the hashtag #HawkEmHelpEm on Monday and Tuesday as the University of North Georgia men's golf team competes in the GSW Hurricane Invitational at the Doublegate Country Club, and the women host the 11th Annual LeeAnn Noble Memorial Tournament at Achasta Golf Club.
