DAHLONEGA — In the regular season home finale, the University of North Georgia men's soccer team defeated Flagler 2-1 at the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park. An early goal and a late one made the difference as North Georgia moves to three games above .500 for the first time this season.

Just moments after Senior Day festivities ended, the Nighthawks got to work quickly. Michael Walsh took a pass from Aram Lara and placed it past the Flagler keeper at the 1:50 mark in the first half to give North Georgia a 1-0 lead.

Flagler found the equalizer shortly later, as Toby McCallum (FLG) tied it at 1-1 with a goal in the 23rd minute. As the halftime whistle blew, both sides went into the break tied at one goal apiece, with neither side finding much of an offensive attack.

UNG would pick up their pace, outshooting Flagler 9-4 in the second half, pushing for the full three points and looking to improve their position in the PBC standings with just one game remaining on the regular season schedule. Once again, late-game heroics arrived for North Georgia, as Miguel Romero took a corner kick cross from Mattia Balzano putting a volley past the keeper to take the lead with just eight minutes remaining.

The Nighthawks will hold steady in the final minutes, grabbing their eighth win of the season and winning their fourth straight game. Next up is the regular season finale and rematch with Lander on the road in Greenwood, S.C., on Wednesday (Oct. 25) at 5:00 p.m. Lander and the Nighthawks ended in a scoreless draw in their first matchup this season.
