DAHLONEGA -- The No. 10 University of North Georgia men's tennis team is ready to take part in the 2024 NCAA Men's Tennis Southeast Regional Tournament today. As the third-seed in the region, the Nighthawks have traveled to Columbus, Ga. where they'll face sixth-seeded Augusta at 3 p.m.

While the matches were originally scheduled to take place in Columbus, inclement weather in the area has caused site to be moved to indoors to the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala.

UNG enters the regional after a 13-7 performance in the regular season that included a 1-1 mark in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Nighthawks fell in the semifinals of the PBC Tournament to top-seeded CSU, 4-1.

Now, they'll take on an Augusta team that they've already defeated once this year. Back on Mar. 16, UNG hosted the Jaguars in its first PBC contest of the regular season. Led by wins in the #1 and #3 doubles spot, the Nighthawks took the early advantage over Augusta. They then won the #1, #2, #3 and #4 singles matches to clinch the 5-2 victory. Even more impressively, UNG won the match without its star player and #1 singles competitor in senior Joaquin Benoit. The match was one of just two in the entire season that Benoit was absent for. In the regional, the Nighthawks will look to ride the momentum of Benoit who was named the 2024 PBC Co-Player of the Year earlier this season. The Mar del Plata, Argentina native is 14-2 in singles this year and has gone 8-1 over UNG's las 10 matches.

Should UNG win, they will face the winner of second-seeded CSU and seventh-seeded Belmont Abbey. The two winners of today's matches will square off tomorrow at the Yarbrough Tennis Center at 12 p.m.
