No. 13 Nighthawks Suffer Close Loss At LMU To Open Season

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team suffered a close 4-3 loss in its first match of the season on the road against Lincoln Memorial.

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team suffered a close 4-3 loss in its first match of the season on the road against Lincoln Memorial.

UNG started Sunday's match from behind after the Railsplitters earned the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 wins in #2 and #3 doubles. The Nighthawks did win the #1 doubles match 6-2 behind the pairing of senior Robin Eldin and junior Pedro Liborio.

In singles, the Nighthawks kept the match interesting thanks to a trio of newcomers who all grabbed wins in their respective matches.

No. 14 Liborio continued his success from doubles into the #1 singles match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over LMU's Harper Mills. 

In the #4 singles contest, Nighthawk newcomer Franco Rgbora came through in the clutch with a 7-6, 7-6 (6-4 tiebreaker) victory. 

UNG earned its third point of the match from Maxence Petit as he took down Kai Miyatake 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the #5 singles slot. 

However, LMU was able to grab wins in the #2, #3 and #6 singles matches to clinch the victory.

Now the Nighthawks will return home to the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek for its home opener against Young Harris on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 12:30 p.m.
