North Georgia Softball Unveils 2025 Schedule
DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia (UNG) softball team has unveiled its schedule for the 2025 season. The new season will mark the first under new head softball coach Brooke O'Hair. The former Mississippi College (MC) coach was announced as the new leader of the Nighthawk softball program back on Sep. 10.
O'Hair arrives in Dahlonega with an impressive resume during her 18 season with the Choctaws. She led MC to 530 career wins, nine NCAA postseason appearances and two NCAA Super Regional berths. O'Hair and the Nighthawks will open the 2025 season on Friday, Jan. 31 in Gulf Shores, Ala. for the Gulf Shores Invitational. UNG will play five games in three days against Rollins, Lubbock Christian, Florida Tech, Barry and Union (Tenn.).
The Nighthawks home opening weekend takes place on Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9 with a doubleheader on each day against Lake Erie and West Florida as part of the inaugural North Georgia Invitational. UNG will also host the Gold City Classic on Feb. 15 and 16 when they host Emmanuel and Emory & Henry for the two-day event.
UNG will also participate in a marquee matchup against Alabama-Huntsville on a neutral field in the Rocket City Softball Showcase on Feb. 19. The showcase takes place in Madison, Ala. at Toyota Field, home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the Double-A Affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.
The Nighthawks begin Peach Belt Conference play on Mar. 1 on the road at USC Aiken. UNG's PBC home opener comes against Lander with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 8.
After the PBC opener, UNG participates in a non-conference, two game set at home against Auburn Montgomery. The Nighthawks will host the Warhawks for a doubleheader on Mar. 5. AUM ended last season as the No. 6 team in the country per the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) coaches poll.
On Apr. 11, the Nighthawks will host Columbus State (CSU) in an opportunity to get revenge from last year's PBC Tournament loss to the Cougars. CSU and UNG will play a lone game on Friday followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 12. The series will be the final home series of the season.
The Nighthawks conclude the regular season campaign with back-to-back road series at August and USC Beaufort. The regular season ends in Bluffton, S.C. against the Sand Sharks on Sunday, Apr. 27.
The PBC Tournament begins on May 2 and ends on May 4. The Nighthawks will look to host the conference championship for the 11th consecutive time as they enter the season as the 10-time reigning regular season champions of the PBC.
