Trushel Named PBC Player of the Week
DAHLONEGA -- No. 10 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's basketball graduate forward Emily Trushel has been named as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Trushel posted a career-high scoring performance in No. 10 UNG's largest conference win of the season 91-54 over USC Beaufort on Saturday.
She dropped 33 points against the Sand Sharks on 14 shots in just 25 minutes played. Trushel went 10-for-14 from the floor and 6-for-9 from three-point range as she tied career-highs for made field goals and triples in a game. She accounted for 60 percent of her team's three-pointers in the game while also going 7-for-7 at the free throw line. Her 33 points are the second-most in a game this season within the PBC.
The performance was Trushel's first 30-point game of her career and her fourth 20-plus-point game this season. The outing also marked a career milestone for Trushel as she surpassed 1,500 career points.
UNG's second-leading scorer did more than just that on Saturday as she added five rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals in the 37-point win.
In total last week, Trushel averaged 23.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks while going 16-for-23 (69.6 percent) from the floor and 8-for-13 (61.5 percent) from deep. She currently ranks No. 7 in the conference in scoring (14.9 points), No. 11 in rebounding (5.4 rebounds) while leading the league in field goal percentage (49.8 percent).
Trushel and the Nighthawks take the floor three times this week beginning tonight in Americus, Ga. for a rescheduled road showdown at Georgia Southwestern. Tip off against the Hurricanes is set for 5:30 p.m.
