Nighthawks Race Past USC Aiken Behind Blackstock's Career Night

DAHLONEGA – Junior guard Livi Blackstock dropped a career high 24 points as the University of North Georgia women's basketball team took down USC Aiken 71-49 Wednesday night in Peach Belt Conference action at Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center.

Blackstock went 10-for-13 from the floor and caught fire in the first half, going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc to spark a massive Nighthawk run. Blackstock's quartet of three pointers are a season high for her this year.

The game started slow as neither team scored a single point in the first five minutes and 42 seconds. The game's first field goal was converted until UNG junior guard Ansley Hall made a layup at the 3:07 mark in the first quarter to make it a 3-2 game.

Hall's layup was the catalyst of a 20-3 run over five-plus minutes. It wasn't until the 6:57 mark in the second quarter in which the Pacers would get their first made field goal, a layup from redshirt junior guard Jentri Worley.

The Nighthawk defense stifled Aiken mightily in the early goings. UNG held the Pacers to an 0-for-15 from the floor before Worley's layup.

The Nighthawks used Blackstock's explosive shooting to head into the halftime locker room with a 33-16 lead after she hit back-to-back threes in the final minute before the break.

In the second half, UNG continued its dominant performance on both ends of the floor.

The Nighthawks outpaced the Pacers 22-11 in the third quarter. Blackstock wasn't the only Nighthawk performer with a big night for head coach Buffie Burson's squad.

For the second game in a row, freshman forward Ava McGlockton recorded a career-high 14 points. McGlockton added five rebounds and a career high two blocks on defense.

Prior to Saturday's matchup against Augusta, McGlockton had previously played just 14 total minutes over five games this season for UNG. In the two games since, the Cumming, Ga. native is averaging 14 points, six rebounds and 1.5 blocks while shooting 11-for-18 (61.1 percent) from the floor.

Wednesday served as the Nighthawks' celebration of Senior Night as the program honored a trio of seniors; Lizzie Campbell, Macey Gregg and Lacie McCoy

All three seniors started the game for Burson. Campbell had seven points on offense while Gregg added a pair of points at the stripe. McCoy highlighted the night with a flashy assist in the waning minutes to cap off the victory.

UNG will now head to Clayton State to end the regular season. The Nighthawks will face the Lakers in Morrow, Ga. Saturday, Mar. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
