North Georgia Finishes Runner-Up at PBC Championship

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — At the Peach Belt Conference championship, the University of North Georgia women's cross country team finished in second place, behind Flagler at the UNG Cross Country Course at UNG's Gainesville Campus. Claire Mills led the way for the Nighthawks in the event, finishing in second overall.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — At the Peach Belt Conference championship, the University of North Georgia women's cross country team finished in second place, behind Flagler at the UNG Cross Country Course at UNG's Gainesville Campus. Claire Mills led the way for the Nighthawks in the event, finishing in second overall.

The 2023 PBC Runner of the Year was neck and neck through the finish, posting a 5K time of 17:41 and finishing just behind Flagler's Amber Schulz. It was Mills' best finish of the season so far, hitting her stride in the second mile, finishing it in 5:45.

Emily McBride finished next for UNG, grabbing a spot in eighth with a time of 17:51. McBride has finished in the top ten in three of the four events this season, just behind a host of Flagler runners. Anna Chasteen was the third finisher for the Nighthawks, recording a time of 18:37 and finishing in 14th.  All three were named to the PBC All-Conference team by virtue of their top-15 finishes.

Elissa Oliver and Nealeigh Broadwell finished in 19th and 20th, with Oliver earning a time of 18:48 and Broadwell on her heels, finishing in 18:59. Ella Stoudenmire finished shortly after, taking multiple spots on the final stretch to finish in 24th with a time of 19:13. Broadwell was named the league's Freshman of the Year.

Adi Myers and Grace Opsahl rounded out the North Georgia runners, with Myers finishing in 30th with a time of 19:24 and Opsahl in 42nd with a time of 19:57.

Flagler and Schulz took home the team and individual title as UNG finished in second, followed by Augusta, Georgia College and Columbus State in the top five.
