INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 6 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 5 Midwestern State (MSU) in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) DII National Women's Team Indoor Championship on Saturday.

The Nighthawks (6-1) suffered the loss to the Mustangs (5-0) in the semifinal match and will now face No. 3 Embry-Riddle tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. in a battle for third place.

Saturday's loss was UNG's first of the season and third in the last 34 matches dating back to last season.

The Nighthawks fell behind early in the match as MSU took the doubles point with wins in the #2 and #3 doubles matches.

With a 1-0 lead, the Mustangs needed just three wins in singles to pull out the victory and advance to the championship.

MSU grabbed a win in the #2 singles contest as Hannah Yip defeated senior Ashley Moinard 6-1, 6-1.

A few minutes later it was Anda Ghinga who took a 7-5, 6-0 win in #4 singles over freshman Linn Goerdes.

Camila Garcia Morales then won the #5 singles match over senior Carolina Reis 6-3, 6-2 to seal the 4-0 win.

In the other semifinal match, No. 1 Barry defeated No. 3 Embry-Riddle 4-0 as well to move on to the championship round.

Now the Eagles and Nighthawks will square off for third place at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow. UNG is in search of its second third-place finish in the ITA Indoor National Championship after also finishing in third in 2023.
