No. 15 Nighthawks Selected As Sixth Seed In 2025 NCAA Southeast Regional
INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 15 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team has earned the sixth seed in the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Southeast Regional Tournament.
The Nighthawks will travel to Salisbury, N.C. where No. 8 and second-seeded Catawba will host three teams for the Southeast Region #2 Tournament May 9-10.
As the six-seeded program in the region, UNG will face No. 11 and third-seeded Wingate in the first round. The Nighthawks are 3-0 since 2012 against Wingate, most recently taking down the Bulldogs 4-0 in the opening round of the 2022 Southeast Regional.
The selection marks the sixth straight season and 11th overall in the last 14 years that head coach Kent Norsworthy's program has been selected for the NCAA postseason.
UNG will look to advance past the NCAA Round of 32 for the third time in five seasons with a pair of wins in the Regional.
Should the Nighthawks take down Wingate, they will face the winner of second-seeded Catawba and seventh-seeded Lander.
UNG took down both of those teams in the regular season behind a thrilling 4-3 comeback on the road against the Bearcats and a 4-2 victory over the Indians in the 2nd Annual Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase. The Nighthawks handed Catawba one of their only two losses so far this season with the victory.
UNG's first match in the tournament takes place Friday, May 9 against the Bulldogs.
The Nighthawks are in search of their first appearance at the National Championship site as the winner of each regional pod will advance to the play at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. in the 2025 NCAA DII Men's Tennis Championship. Single elimination competition begins on May 20 and continues through the National Championship on May 24.
