PBC Releases 2024 Men's & Women's Tennis Tournament Brackets, UNG Women Earn Top Seed

DAHLONEGA – The Peach Belt Conference announced the seeding and match times for the men's and women's tennis PBC Tournament Monday afternoon. With a 20-1 overall record and a 5-1 standing in conference play, the No. 3 Nighthawk women's team won the PBC regular season crown and earned the top spot in this year's tournament after a historic regular season.

DAHLONEGA – The Peach Belt Conference announced the seeding and match times for the men's and women's tennis PBC Tournament Monday afternoon. With a 20-1 overall record and a 5-1 standing in conference play, the No. 3 Nighthawk women's team won the PBC regular season crown and earned the top spot in this year's tournament after a historic regular season.

For the men's team, No. 8 UNG finished 12-6 on the year and 3-2 in conference matches, landing them the third seed in the bracket. 

The women's tournament will start in Columbus, Ga. on Friday, Apr. 26 as host No. 14 Columbus State is the site for this year's tournament. All matches will be played at CSU's Walden Tennis Center. Three quarterfinal matches will be played on Friday, followed by a pair of semifinal matches on Saturday, Apr. 27 before the championship on Sunday, Apr. 28 at 10 a.m. 

The bracket and match schedule is as follows:

Friday, Apr. 26

9 a.m. – #4 Georgia College vs. #5 Augusta
12 p.m. – #2 Flagler vs. #7 Georgia Southwestern
12 p.m. – #3 Columbus State vs. #6 Lander

Saturday, Apr. 27

10 a.m. – 4/5 Winner vs. #1 North Georgia
10 a.m. – 2/7 Winner vs. 3/6 Winner

Sunday, Apr. 28

10 a.m. – Championship

The Nighthawks have never won the tournament, finishing as the runner-up twice in the last five years, but head coach Kent Norsworthy's team has also never had a season like this. 

With a 20-1 record, UNG posted the best regular season win total in program history. With a .952 winning percentage, the 2024 season currently ranks as the single greatest season in UNG women's tennis history by a wide margin. 

On the men's side with only six teams in the field, UNG will play on day one on Friday, Apr. 26 at 3 p.m. against GCSU. The Nighthawks just swept GCSU 7-0 on Saturday during their Senior Day celebration in the final match of the regular season. 

Top-seeded Flagler and second-seeded Columbus State earned first round byes in the six-team bracket.

Postseason play begins in Columbus, Ga. at 3 p.m. on Friday with two quarterfinal matches, followed by two semifinal contests on Saturday and the championship on Sunday.

3:00 pm - #5 Augusta vs. #4 Lander
3:00 pm - #6 GCSU vs. #3 North Georgia

Saturday, Apr. 27

1:00 pm - 4/5 winner vs. #1 Flagler
1:00 pm - 3/6 winner vs. #2 Columbus State

Sunday, Apr. 28

1:00 pm - Championship

The Nighthawk men's team has never made it past the semifinals in the 19-year history of the program. To do so this season, they'll have to get past GCSU and then beat a No. 5 Columbus State team who won the regular season match 5-2.
