Liborio Named PBC Player of the Week
DAHLONEGA -- No. 25 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis junior Pedro Liborio was announced as the Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week Monday afternoon.
Liborio helped the Nighthawks take down No. 24 Lander in a major 4-3 road victory last week.
Liborio, ranked as the No. 18 men's singles player in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), clinched the overall victory in the #1 singles match on Friday. After the Nighthawks lost the doubles point, they rallied for three singles wins, giving Liborio an opportunity to bring home the win.
He did so by rallying after a first-set loss to defeat ITA No. 70 Harry Pugh 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 and earn the win for UNG.
The victory marked Liborio's first over a ranked opponent this spring and was his seventh singles win this year which is tied for the most on the team.
As a team, Friday marked UNG's first ranked win on the road since March 29, 2023.
This is Liborio's first PBC Player of the Week honor of his career. He and the Nighthawks are back in action on Tuesday, April 8 from Rome, Ga. in a neutral site match against West Alabama. The match begins at 2 p.m.
