INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 6 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team is set to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) DII National Women's Team Indoor Championship in Indianapolis, Ind. this weekend.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 6 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team is set to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) DII National Women's Team Indoor Championship in Indianapolis, Ind. this weekend.

UNG earned the second-seed in this year's indoor national championship after finishing the 2023-24 season as the No. 3 team nationally in the ITA Division II National Rankings.

To be selected for the championship, the top seven teams from the 2023-24 Final ITA National Rankings received an invite with one spot reserved for the hosts, Indianapolis. This will be UNG's second appearance in the event as the program appeared in the 2023 ITA Indoor National Championship and finished in third place with two wins.

Each team is guaranteed to play three matches in the contest with the victors advancing through the bracket and the losers competing in consolation rounds.

The Nighthawks (5-0) will take on No. 7 and seventh-seeded Flagler (2-0) in the opening round at 8 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21.

Last year UNG defeated the Saints twice to mark its first wins against Flagler since 2019.

The Nighthawks posted a 5-2 win on the road in early April before re-matching the Saints once more in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship later in the month. There UNG pulled out a 4-2 victory to secure its first-ever PBC Tournament title.

A key match in this year's contest will be in #1 singles between ITA women's singles No. 4 Angelina Linnikova and Flagler's No. 5 Dana Heimen. Linnikova and Heimen ended the fall campaign as the fourth and fifth best singles players in the country respectively according to the ITA. The two have yet to face each other in collegiate competition.

The winner between the two PBC rivals will move on to face the winner of No. 4 Lynn and No. 5 Midwestern State on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m.
