DAHLONEGA -- No. 30 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball redshirt junior first baseman Phillip Ard has been named as the Chick-fil-A Nighthawk of the Week after helping the team to four road wins last week.

Ard had a record-setting week for the Nighthawks last week. He exploded in a team record-setting road series at Augusta as he combined to go 7-for-11 with eight runs scored, a double, three home runs and 11 RBI.

In a program record 31-run performance on Saturday, Ard broke numerous individual records for UNG. In that game he went 5-for-7 with three homers, four runs scored and nine RBI.

Ard tied the single-game program records for hits, RBI and home runs while breaking the individual record for total bases with 15.

The Cochran, Ga. native has solidified himself as arguably the best hitter in the PBC this season as he currently leads the league in home runs (14) and RBI (62) while ranking second in slugging percentage (.729) and on-base plus slugging (1.200). He also ranks top 10 in batting average (.361), on-base percentage (.471), hits (48) and runs scored (38).

Ard ranks second nationally in RBI, eighth in home runs and 11th in total bases this season as well.

The second-year Nighthawk and company take the field at home against this week on Tuesday, April 1 against Anderson. First pitch from Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park is set for 5 p.m.

The Nighthawk of the Week title sponsor is Chick-fil-A of Dahlonega, with each week's winner being treated to a complimentary combo meal at the Dahlonega restaurant. Located at 488 Morrison Moore Parkway East, Chick-fil-A loves to give back to the local area and is proud to be a community partner with UNG Athletics.

Beginning in the fall of 2014, the UNG athletic department began honoring one student-athlete each Monday morning as the Nighthawk of the Week. The award is chosen each Sunday evening by an award selection committee made up of members of the UNG athletics administrative staff.
