Starlight fireworks event set for Aug. 17
The University of North Georgia (UNG) invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to the annual Starlight Celebration and fireworks event, set for Aug. 17 at UNG's Gainesville Campus.
"We can't wait to celebrate the beginning of the 2024-25 academic year with one of our signature events," UNG President Michael Shannon said. "Starlight provides an awesome opportunity to bring together our Nighthawk family and celebrate the most innovative, dynamic, legacy-making university in America."
Gates will open at 6 p.m. for the event with fireworks at dark. All activities will take place in the G.W. Bailey Amphitheater at 3820 Mundy Mill Road in Oakwood, Georgia.
Food can be purchased on site from UNG Dining Gainesville and Frozen Frenzee. Attendees may also bring their own picnics.
Parking costs $10 per car or $20 per bus, van or larger vehicle and can only be paid in cash. UNG students can enter for free with a valid UNG student ID card. No walk-ins are permitted. Net proceeds from the event benefit student scholarships.
"We look forward to having everyone on campus for Starlight," Dr. Steven Smith, vice president of regional campuses, said. "This is a great event for families to enjoy a memorable night of fireworks, food and fun."
The UNG Patriot Choir will sing the national anthem, and the UNG Color Guard will present the colors. UNG's Low Brass Collective and Jazz Ensemble will also perform.
Clay Christy with Brickhouse Mobile DJs will serve as the event DJ.
The following items are prohibited at Starlight: pets (other than service animals), sparklers or outside fireworks, grills or any open flames, political signage, advertisements, or unlawful weapons.
Additionally, everyone is encouraged to use #UNGstarlight when sharing their photos of family, friends and fireworks during and after the event.
