Student helps faculty member expand bladder cancer research

Jessica Nix, a junior majoring in biology at the University of North Georgia, and Dr. Shannon Kispert, an associate professor of biology, are conducting research to see how smoking facilitates growth of cancerous tumors in the bladder. Kispert and Nix are investigating phospholipase A2 (PLA2) pathway proteins, which they believe can become conducive to tumor growth after exposure to cigarette smoke.
