No. 22 North Georgia Ends Season in Overtime at NCAA Southeast Regional

SALISBURY, N.C. — In their third overtime game in eight days, the No. 22 University of North Georgia women's soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime against Catawba in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional semifinals. The Nighthawks took a lead late in the first half before Catawba answered with four minutes left in regulation, scoring the game winner in the final minutes of the first overtime period.

The Nighthawks took a lead late in the first half before Catawba answered with four minutes left in regulation, scoring the game winner in the final minutes of the first overtime period.

Nikki Gomez kicked off the scoring in the game, finding the back of the net in the 44th minute to take a 1-0 lead at the halftime break. The Nighthawks weathered the storm defensively fending off multiple chances for Catawba.

Bree Ehmer of Catawba was the key for the Indians, coming off the bench to score both the equalizer in the 86th minute of regulation and the winning goal in the 99th minute, proving her title as the South Atlantic Conference's Freshman of the Year.

Sierra Fowler continued an impressive season with eight saves, making multiple diving saves and helping lead one of the best back lines in NCAA DII. The Nighthawks finish one of the best seasons in program history with a record of 14-4-4, earning the first win in the NCAA tournament since 2019 and capturing the program's first outright Peach Belt Regular Season championship.
