UNG Baseball, Men's Golf Earn PBC Team Sportsmanship Awards
DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia athletics department had two spring teams earn Peach Belt Conference Team Sportsmanship Awards as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. Men's golf and baseball each took home the team sportsmanship awards for their respective sports.
UNG was the only PBC program to earn multiple team sportsmanship awards for the 2024 season.
The baseball program, under the direction of 25th year head coach Tom Cantrell, was selected for the award for the fourth consecutive season.
The Nighthawks went 32-19 this year and 17-10 in conference play before ending their season in the PBC Tournament.
Meanwhile, the men's golf program, manned by head coach Bryson Worley, earned their sportsmanship award for the fifth time in program history.
The men's golf team is currently in Orlando, Fla. for the 2024 NCAA Division II Spring Sports Festival, as it is in the midst of competing in the 2024 Men's Golf National Championship. The Nighthawks had a stellar season to get them to the national championship stage, winning six of their 12 tournaments and finishing no worse than third in 11 of them. They also won the PBC Championship and South/Southeast Regional for the first time in program history.
The two honors this year have added to UNG's school total of 29 team sportsmanship awards, tied with Georgia Southwestern for the most in the conference.
