Vajda Named Chick-fil-a Nighthawk of the Week
DAHLONEGA – Graduate student Jack Vajda of the No. 1 University of North Georgia men's golf team has been named as the Chick-fil-a Nighthawk of the Week after his outstanding performance over the weekend in the 2024 Peach Belt Conference Championship.
Vajda rewrote the UNG and PBC record books with his play in the conference championship.
It started with back-to-back rounds of six-under-par 66 on Friday and Saturday to start the tournament. Each of those rounds stand as the third-lowest individual rounds in PBC Championship history and are tied for the second lowest individual rounds in school history.
Ending the tournament at 12-under-par and defeating the field by five shots, Vajda also recorded the second-lowest 54-hole score in both PBC Championship and UNG men's golf history.
The first place finish marked his second of the season, the most of any Nighthawk golfer and it served as his sixth top-10 finish, also the most on the team this year. Vajda also won individual medalist honors at the Tennessee River Rumble in late March.
With the outing, Vajda helped his team to a first place finish in the tournament for the first time in program history. His score contributed to an 18-shot lead and a 54-hole score of 18-under-par for the Nighthawks, as they broke the PBC 54-hole team scoring record that stood for 19 years.
The Nighthawk of the Week title sponsor is Chick-fil-A of Dahlonega, with each week's winner being treated to a complimentary combo meal at the Dahlonega restaurant. Located at 488 Morrison Moore Parkway East, Chick-fil-A loves to give back to the local area and is proud to be a community partner with UNG Athletics.
Beginning in the fall of 2014, the UNG athletic department began honoring one student-athlete each Monday morning as the Nighthawk of the Week. The award is chosen each Sunday evening by an award selection committee made up of members of the UNG athletics administrative staff.
