Men's Soccer Earns Four Members On PBC Team of Academic Distinction

DAHLONEGA – The Peach Belt Conference announced its 2024 men's soccer Team of Academic Distinction Wednesday morning and four members of the Nighthawk program made the list.

DAHLONEGA – The Peach Belt Conference announced its 2024 men's soccer Team of Academic Distinction Wednesday morning and four members of the Nighthawk program made the list.

To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference sports communications professionals oversee the program.

Senior defender Alejandro DeVillena made the team for the second time in his academic career with a 3.85 GPA. DeVillena also made the PBC Team of Academic Distinction in 2022 and has now won six different academic awards during his time at UNG.

Junior forward Haris Osmanbasic also earned the first PBC academic acclaim of his career with a 3.52 GPA in Information Systems this past year.

Fellow junior Miguel Romero also made an appearance on the Team of Academic Distinction for the first time in his career. The midfielder has now earned three different academic honors in his time at North Georgia.

Rounding out UNG's academic appearance was junior DJ Shin. The Seoul, South Korea native finished with the second-highest GPA of any Team of Academic Distinction member with a 3.96 GPA in accounting. 

The UNG men's soccer team has now had multiple members named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction (or all-academic team as it is formerly named) in four straight seasons and in 11 of the last 12 years.
