Thompson Named PBC Defender of the Week

DAHLONEGA -- University of North Georgia (UNG) men's soccer senior defender Quinn Thompson was named as the Peach Belt Conference Defender of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Less than 60 seconds after being substituted into the game, Thompson scored a sizzling goal to pull the Nighthawks even with the Saints at 1-1 in the 43rd minute. The goal, Thompson's first of the season, came after a flurry of deflections led to a one-touch screamer that didn't get more than four feet off the ground.

UNG would go on to win the game and move a point ahead of Flagler and Clayton State to nab the first place spot in the Peach Belt Conference standings. Thompson is just the third Nighthawk defender to score this season.

The victory secured a Nighthawk sweep of the Saints in the regular season. It's the first time in program history UNG has defeated Flagler twice in a single season. It also extends the Nighthawk winning streak to three games over the Saints, the longest such mark in program history.

Thompson earns his first honor from the conference office since transferring to UNG from Young Harris where he spent his first four collegiate seasons. He's the fourth Nighthawk to earn a weekly award from the PBC this season and the second defender to do so.

Now Thompson and the Nighthawks will prepare to face Clayton State on the road in Morrow, Ga. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.
