Blair Named Player Of The Week, Levao-Maisonet Earns Freshman Of The Week In PBC Weekly Awards
DAHLONEGA – Senior catcher Georgia Blair and redshirt freshman infielder Tagen Levao-Maisonet were each named in the weekly Peach Belt Conference awards Monday by the league office.
Blair earned PBC Softball Player of the Week while Levao-Maisonet was named the PBC Softball Freshman of the Week after they both made key contributions in a pair of wins at Lander for the No. 4 University of North Georgia softball team.
On day one of the series in which the Nighthawks launched eight home runs as a team, Blair shouldered half that load with four home runs of her own on Saturday. Despite a loss in game one, Blair helped UNG on the scoreboard with a first inning solo shot.
In game two, she launched three home runs over the center field wall including a grand slam on the way to a 14-5 win. The performance marked the first time in her career she hit three home runs in a game and the second such performance from a Nighthawk hitter this season. In total on the day, Blair went 4-for-5 with eight RBI, four home runs and four walks.
In April, Blair has been one of the best hitters in the country going 18-for-38 (.473) with 19 RBI, nine home runs, eight walks, a .565 on base percentage and a 1.237 slugging percentage (1.802 OPS).
With her big day in the double header, Blair ended the regular season as the PBC leader in slugging percentage (.801) and total bases (113) while ranking second in home runs (15), third in RBI (94) and fifth in batting average (.397).
While Blair's standout performance came on Saturday, Levao-Maisonet was the lead contributor for UNG in the regular season finale against Lander on Sunday.
In a 3-0 win, Levao-Maisonet batted in a pair of runs for the seventh time this season. She got UNG on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. She then sealed the win with her second home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning to make it 3-0. She also worked a walk and stole a base in the victory.
The Player of the Week honor comes as Blair's first in her career. For Levao-Maisonet, Monday marks the second time she's been named the PBC Softball Freshman of the Week.
The duo will look to lead the Nighthawks to their 10th consecutive PBC Tournament championship as the campaign for another trophy begins this weekend at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium with the quarter and semi final rounds of the conference tournament.
