No. 2 UNG Drops 4-3 Match Against No. 18 West Florida
DAHLONEGA – The No. 2 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis dropped a close 4-3 match against No. 18 West Florida (UWF) at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek on Tuesday.
The Argonauts (8-5, 4-2 Gulf South) earned a win in the doubles point with victories in the #2 and #3 matches over the Nighthawks (9-5, 1-0 Peach Belt).
In singles, UWF pulled further ahead with wins in the #3 and #4 singles matches.
UNG recovered from the 3-0 deficit as ITA women's singles No. 3 Angelina Linnikova cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Carolta Verdu. The highest-ranked singles player in program history improved to 12-0 in singles matches this spring with the victory.
The Nighthawks pulled even closer as junior Emily Bush won the #5 singles contest 7-5, 6-2 to make it 3-2 in the match overall.
The Argonauts clinched the victory in a thrilling match in #2 singles as Sandra Recuenco won 6-7 (5-7 tiebreaker), 6-3, 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker) over senior Ashley Moinard.
UNG now prepares for a road matchup against Tusculum in Greeneville, Tenn. on Monday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
