No. 19 Nighthawks Open Competition In 2025 With Win Over UAB
MURRAY, Ky. – The No.19 University of North Georgia (UNG) rifle team picked up a win over Alabama Birmingham (UAB) to open the 2025 portion of the season on Friday afternoon. The victory comes as UNG's third over an opponent from the Southern Conference this season.
The Nighthawks out shot the Blazers by a score of 4618-4559 to grab their fourth win of the season in their first competition since Nov. 24.
UNG started the competition with a win in the Smallbore discipline, posting 2278 points compared to UAB's 2264.
Junior Maya Cameron led all shooters in the discipline with a score of 574 as she connected on 24 centers in her performance.
Freshman Brianna Walter hit the most centers of any Smallbore competitor with 27 and finished just behind Cameron with a total score of 572.
In the Air Rifle discipline, the Nighthawks expanded on their lead with a score of 2340, 45 points higher than the Blazers.
Similar to Smallbore, Cameron again led the scoring while Walter hit the most centers. Cameron hit the center 37 times and compiled a 590 score, while Walter drilled the center 42 times and tallied a score of 588.
Sophomore Corbin Jockers hit a personal record with a 587 Air Rifle score as well. Sophomores Abby Swain and Courtney Allison each totaled a 581 in Air Rifle to bolster the team's performance.
Cameron and Walter saw their names as the top two on the scoreboard in the aggregate column. Cameron led all shooters with an aggregate total of 1164 points while Walter followed closely behind at 1160.
Now UNG will get ready to head to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on another SoCon opponent in Wofford. The Nighthawks will face the Terriers for the second time this season on Saturday, Jan. 25. In the first meeting, UNG took down Wofford 4658-4475 back on Nov. 9.
