No. 19 UNG Finishes Fourth In Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The No. 19 University of North Georgia (UNG) rifle team finished in fourth place out of five teams in competition in Jacksonville, Ala. in a meet full of ranked teams on Sunday.
The 19th ranked Nighthawks finished with 4,655 points behind No. 6 Murray State (4,722), No. 15 Jacksonville State (4,690) and No. 18 UT Martin (4,660). Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) will finish the Air Rifle portion of the meet at a later date.
UNG's performance was highlighted once again by freshman Alison Sutherlin who posted a personal record aggregate score of 1,179 points. Sutherlin's day was highlighted by a 598 Air Rifle score to tie the school record. This is Sutherlin's second time tying the UNG Air Rifle record this season. Her 598 points led the Air Rifle portion of the competition ahead of 29 other competitors.
Sutherlin was the only Nighthawk to finish in the top 10 individually, posting 78 centers in her overall performance.
Sophomore Abby Swain had a strong day as well, posting a personal record 570 in the Smallbore discipline. Swain finished with 1,156 aggregate points and 65 centers.
UNG will now rest up until January and get ready for the Withrow Invitational in Muray, Ky. The match takes place Friday, Jan. 17 as UAB hosts the event.
