No. 19 Nighthawks Snag First Ranked Win Of Season At No. 20 The Citadel
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 19 University of North Georgia (UNG) rifle team grabbed its first ranked win of the season in Charleston, S.C. against No 20 The Citadel Saturday morning. The Nighthawks have now defeated a ranked team in each of the last four seasons.
Saturday's victory came after the Nighthawks total 4,657 points with near-record totals in Smallbore (2,307) and Air Rifle (2,350).
Freshman Alison Sutherlin highlighted the match as the individual leader with an aggregate score of 1,170 points. The rookie posted a 581 in Smallbore, followed by a 589 in Air Rifle. Her Smallbore mark was a new personal record for the standout first-year shooter.
Coming in second on the individual standings was another Nighthawk in freshman Brianna Walter. The Suwannee, Ga. native hit the most centers of any shooter with 72 on Saturday. Walter utilized a personal record 576 in Smallbore and coupled it with a 589 in Air Rifle for an aggregate total of 1,165 points.
UNG had three other shooters finish in the top-10 individually in junior Maya Cameron (1,156), sophomore Abby Swain (1,144) and freshman Wyatt Hicks (1,134).
The Nighthawks look to continue the impressive shooting of late on Sunday, Nov. 24 when they head to Jacksonville, Ala. to face No. 15 Jacksonville State.
