Martin Named PBC Player of the Week

DAHLONEGA -- University of North Georgia (UNG) women's basketball graduate guard Caroline Martin has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

In the Bryan Properties UNG Nighthawk Classic, Martin led UNG women's basketball to a pair of wins which included the Nighthawks' first ranked win of the season over No. 16 Nova Southeastern.

On Friday, Martin and company took on Livingstone and pulled out a 15-point victory. Martin posted a game-high 20 points with seven rebounds and four assists while shooting 50 percent from the floor (7-for-14) and beyond the arc (4-for-8).

Less than 24 hours later, Martin helped UNG take down the 16th ranked Sharks with an impressive performance of 11 points, a game-high eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal. In total, Martin averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, four assists and 1.5 blocks while shooting 55.6 percent from downtown. After four games this season, she leads the Nighthawks in scoring, rebounding, blocks and three-point shooting. 

In the second week of the season, this marks UNG's first weekly honor from the conference this year. It's Martin's third time winning the award in her career and her first time since Nov. 21, 2022. The Nighthawks have had at least one winner in seven consecutive seasons with Martin's honor on Monday.
