DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia (UNG) women's basketball team completed a successful weekend in the Peach Belt/Conference Carolinas Challenges with a 78-70 win over Young Harris at Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center Saturday afternoon.

The Nighthawks utilized double-digit scoring efforts from four different players for the second consecutive game to power past the Mountain Lions for the win. 

Caroline Martin led the scoring for UNG in back-to-back days. The graduate guard posted 21 points on 6-for-14 shooting with an 8-for-9 mark at the free throw line in the victory over Young Harris. Martin added five rebounds, three assists, four steals and a block as well. Her four steals tie a career-high. Martin has recorded four steals in a game at least once in every year of her playing career.

Junior transfer Jaleah Storr shined on Saturday with 18 points and nine rebounds in her second game in a Nighthawk uniform. She went 5-for-8 from the floor and 7-for-10 from the stripe on Saturday. Her 18 points is the third-most in a game in Storr's career. 

Storr and Martin were accompanied in the double-digit scoring by the duo of graduate forward Emily Trushel and sophomore forward Kendall Emener.

Trushel dropped 13 points and four rebounds while going 6-for-7 from the charity stripe. Emener was dominant down low with 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting while adding three rebounds and a pair of assists. 

Despite getting out-shot by the Mountain Lions from both the floor and three-point line, UNG's aggressive offensive attack led to 33 free throw attempts Saturday. The Nighthawks converted on 25 of those attempts for a game-changing 75.8 percent mark. 

The first quarter saw Young Harris take a 21-17 lead into the second frame. However, UNG turned up the production on both ends of the floor before halftime, outscoring the Mountain Lions 20-10 to take a 37-31 lead into the locker room. 

Young Harris opened the second half with a 9-2 run in under four minutes to reclaim the lead 40-39 with 6:29 to go in the third quarter. The teams would exchange the lead five more times before the frame was over. 

A Parahuia Delamere layup with 8:47 left in the fourth quarter gave the Mountain Lions a 59-55 lead as they began to take control of the game. UNG answered with a quick 10-0 run in which Martin contributed seven points including a clutch three-pointer to cap the run and give the Nighthawks a 65-59 advantage with 7:11 to go. 

Storr would score six of her team's final 15 points as UNG went on to outlast Young Harris down the stretch for the eight-point victory. 

Now the Nighthawks will prepare for another weekend of showcase basketball as they host the UNG Nighthawk Classic presented by Bryan Properties. Livingstone, Clayton State and No. 16 Nova Southeastern will all travel to Dahlonega and the UNG Convocation Center for the annual event. UNG will take on Livingstone on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. followed by No. 16 Nova Southeastern on Saturday at 2 p.m.
