No. 20 UNG Ends Fall Season With Third Place Outing At Intercollegiate At Nemacolin
FARMINGTON, Pa. – The No. 20 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's golf team finished in third place at the Intercollegiate at Nemacolin in Farmington, Pa. on Thursday afternoon. The placement secures UNG's fourth finish in fourth place or better this fall.
With an average placement of 3.0 in the Nighthawks' four fall events this year, UNG is off to the best start in a season in program history. Its previous best was in the fall of 2020 when the Nighthawks had an average placement of 3.25 in five events.
It was thanks to a pair of top-10 performances from sophomore Abby Franks and senior Jadin Ware that helped UNG to a 49-over-par finish behind No. 17 Grand Valley State who finished in second place at 32-over and host and No. 2 Findlay who won the event at eight-over.
Franks utilized a pair of birdies in her final round to finish with a one-under 71 in the finale. She ended the tournament in eighth place at seven-over-par. Franks' top-10 finish marks the first of the season for the second year golfer. It's also the third top-10 appearance of her career and her third highest finish ever.
Ware was aided by a quartet of birdies as she battled to a 73 on the final day of play. Her nine-over total score was good enough for a T-10 finish on the individual leaderboard which ties Ware's best finish of the season thus far.
Senior Elliee Rippee followed with a T-16 finish after shooting 16-over during the three-round event at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.
Junior Cora Mount finished in 20th place after posting the lowest round of the tournament for the Nighthawks in round two with a two-under 70.
UNG's third place finish as a team is an improvement by three spots from last year's sixth place finish in the same event. It also marks the Nighthawks' fifth straight tournament and seven of their last eight in fourth place or better.
With the best fall season in program history concluded, the Nighthawks will now look forward to an exciting spring campaign. Last spring, UNG rode late momentum to a second place finish in the Peach Belt Conference Championship, its highest finish since 2021.
