UNG Launches Champion HER Scholarship Initiative
DAHLONEGA – University of North Georgia Nighthawk Athletics has announced the launch of Champion HER, a collective initiative led by the North Georgia Athletic Fund, that empowers, celebrates and champions female student-athletes at UNG. Contributions to the Champion HER initiative have a wide-ranging impact to include scholarship support and other personal development opportunities.
The initiative is spearheaded by former Director of Athletics Lindsay Reeves.
"Champion HER is an initiative driven by passion, belief, and commitment — and I'm thrilled to say it already has strong support behind it," stated Reeves. "Thanks to an incredibly generous anonymous donor who provided the first $10,000 to get this fund started, we've already seen numerous individuals step up and contribute. It's truly incredible to see a shared passion for supporting and empowering our female student-athletes."
In addition to recognizing the accomplishments of female student-athletes throughout the history of Nighthawk Athletics, Champion HER aims to raise $100,000 in the inaugural year in support of North Georgia's seven women's programs. Funds will be used for everything from scholarship support to mentorship programs.
The successful tradition of UNG women's athletics includes two team national championship titles, an individual national champion, 79 conference titles, 20 regional championships, 94 All-Americans, 12 Hall of Fame inductees and six national Player of the Year winners. Perhaps even more impressive than the successes in competition is the inspiring collection of career paths forged by women student-athlete alumnae that continually demonstrate that their on the field accomplishments are just the beginning of their lasting impact.
The collaborative effort will not only enhance the North Georgia student-athlete experience, but will also allow alumni, supporters and NGAF members to offer their talents and resources in some of the most formative years of the lives of our Nighthawk female athletes.
"We all know what UNG stands for — providing a high-quality education, an exceptional athletic experience and preparing our student-athletes for life beyond college," stated Director of Athletics Mary Rob Plunkett. "The Champion HER initiative is yet another foundational step in this mission's journey."
Supporters can make an impact on the experience of current and future female student-athletes by contributing to the CHAMPION HER initiative by visiting UNGAthletics.com/ChampionHER.
