Vajda Named PBC Men's Golfer of the Week
DAHLONEGA – No. 2 University of North Georgia men's golf graduate student Jack Vajda has been named as the Peach Belt Conference Men's Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Vajda had a stellar tournament as the Nighthawks hosted the Third Annual Mizuno Intercollegiate earlier this week.
The graduate student posted three rounds below par in the tournament, finishing at 11-under-par and earning individual medalist honors. Vajda's tournament was highlighted by an opening round 66 (-6) on Monday. He would shoot 71 (-1) and 68 (-4) to finish the tournament two shots clear of the 90-player field.
Vajda's opening round 66 and overall 11-under scores are both the third-best 18-hole and 54-hole individual scores in UNG men's golf history.
His efforts helped the Nighthawks to a second-place finish in which they shot 28-under as a team and 16-under on the final day. Both marks are tied for second all-time for 18-hole and 54-hole team scores in program history.
In his last seven tournaments dating back to last season, Vajda has won four and finished top-10 in another, averaging 69.9 strokes per round in that stretch.
The Nighthawks have now nabbed the first two PBC Men's Golf weekly honors of the 2024-25 campaign as Vajda follows senior teammate Ethan Day who won the award last week.
Vajda is now the 16th PBC Golfer of the Week in UNG men's golf history. He's the 14th golfer to win the award since head coach Bryson Worley took over the program in 2018. This is Vajda's first ever weekly conference honor of his career.
UNG and Vajda are currently preparing for the GSW Hurricane Invitational at Doublegate Country Club which takes place Monday Oct. 7 and Tuesday Oct. 8 in Albany, Ga.
