No. 17 UNG Wins Fourth Straight Match In 5-2 Victory At Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 17 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team took down Tusculum 5-2 on the road in Greeneville, Tenn. for its fourth consecutive win Friday afternoon.

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 17 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team took down Tusculum 5-2 on the road in Greeneville, Tenn. for its fourth consecutive win Friday afternoon.

After dropping its first match of the season, North Georgia (4-1) has won every match since with the latest coming in the defeat over the Pioneers (2-3). 

UNG took an early advantage on Friday with wins in the #1 and #2 doubles matches to clinch the doubles point and make it 1-0 overall in the match.

Senior Robin Eldin and freshman Juan Cruz Blanco pulled out a 7-5 victory in the #1 contest while junior Pedro Liborio and freshman Janos Varga evaded the opposition with a 6-3 victory in the #2 match.

At 1-0 overall, No. 14 Liborio took down Tusculum's Rens Verhaar 6-0, 6-3 in the #1 singles battle to grab his fourth singles win of the season.

Eldin snatched his third win this year with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Nathan Matsuguma in the #2 match. Eldin now holds the longest active singles winning streak on the team at three straight consecutive matches.

Sophomore Marcos Castellanos took a solid win in #4 singles with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 victory against Miles Ray.

Junior Eliseo Alcalade saw the court for the first time this season on Friday and started his season on a high note with a 6-2, 7-5 win in the #6 singles slot. 

The Nighthawks will return home and begin preparation for their first Peach Belt Conference match of the season. The conference opener takes place on Tuesday, Mar. 4 on the road at Augusta at 1:30 p.m.
