Nighthawks Drop Road Contest At No. 22 Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team had its three-game winning streak snapped in an 8-1 road loss at No. 22 Young Harris (YH) Tuesday evening.

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team had its three-game winning streak snapped in an 8-1 road loss at No. 22 Young Harris (YH) Tuesday evening.

UNG suffered a defeat at the hands of a YH offense that has now scored six or more runs in nine of its 11 games this season.

The Mountain Lions got on the board first in the fifth inning after finally getting to Nighthawk redshirt sophomore starter Avery Brown.

Brown went through the first four innings scoreless but was pulled in the fifth inning after opening the frame with a walk and a hit batter.

YH added its first two runs after the pitching change after an error allowed one run to score before a fielder's choice brought in another.

The Mountain Lions had a big inning in the sixth when they added five runs on a two RBI double and a three-run home run.

With a 7-0 lead, YH added its final run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly.

UNG added its lone run of the game in the top of the ninth when junior center fielder Andrews Opata grounded out to third base, bringing in junior right fielder Edwin Bowman IV.

Now UNG will return home for a non-conference series against Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia College.

The Nighthawks will face the reigning PBC Tournament Champions over the course of three days at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park beginning on Friday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m.
