Four Nighthawks Victorious, 13 Athletes Finish Top Five In Season-Opening Meet

CENTRAL, S.C. – The University of North Georgia (UNG) women's track & field team competed in its first meet of the 2025 season in the Susan Rouse Invitational hosted by Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C. on Saturday.

CENTRAL, S.C. – The University of North Georgia (UNG) women's track & field team competed in its first meet of the 2025 season in the Susan Rouse Invitational hosted by Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C. on Saturday.

The Nighthawks shined as four athletes won their respective events while a total of 13 competitors placed in the top five.

On the track, senior Ella Stoudenmire made headlines with a pair of victories in the women's 800 and 1500 meter races. 

In the 800, Stoudenmire sped past the competition with a time of 2:24.25 as she won the event by more than a full second. Stoudenmire was an individual Peach Belt Conference Champion in the 800m race each of the last two years.

In the 1500, Stoudenmire again outran everyone as she crossed the line with a 4:53.26 pace to beat out 30 other runners. 

UNG made headlines as a team in the 800m and 1500m races as well. 

Behind Stoudenmire, six Nighthawks finished in the top 13 in the 800m. Freshman Aubrey Dishman came in second place 1.3 seconds behind her senior teammate. Sophomore Adi Myers finished fourth in the race with a 2:29.20 time. 

Myers recorded a pair of top-5 finishes Saturday as she also came in second place in the 5000 meter race with a 19:50.41 pace. 

Senior Anna Chasteen tallied another top-5 finish for the Nighthawks in the 1500m race as she finished in fourth with a final time of 5:08.41. 

Chasteen continued her big day in the 3000 Steeplechase with an 11:58.20 time to win the event. A trio of UNG freshmen in Maggie Welp, Dishman and Katelyn Harper all finished in the top 5 of the event coming in third, fourth and fifth place respectively. 

Two Nighthawk newcomers made significant contributions on Saturday as well. 

Senior Sophia Alexander ran to a 12th-place finish in the 200 meter race followed by a second-place podium finish in the 400 meter dash. The Thomas University transfer ran a 1:02.63 time in the 400m.

In the field, Clayton State senior transfer Ny'Asia Green leapt to a big performance with a pair of top-5 finishes. Green placed fifth in the long jump as she landed 4.82 meters past the marker. In the triple jump, Green exploded to win the event with a 10.63 meter finish.

UNG will look to follow up the impressive showing in the season opener on Friday, Mar. 14 and Saturday, Mar. 15 in Mobile, Ala. at the South Alabama Invitational.
