MONROE, N.C. – The No. 11 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's golf team is in 11th place out of 17 teams in the field at the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe, N.C.

MONROE, N.C. – The No. 11 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's golf team is in 11th place out of 17 teams in the field at the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe, N.C.

The Nighthawks combined to shoot 26-over par on the first day and trail first-place No. 10 Lee by 14 shots as the Flames combined to go 12-over on day one against a tournament filled with five of the Women's Golf Coaches Association's (WGCA) top-25 teams in the country.

Play on Monday was stopped in the afternoon due to rain. The field was originally scheduled to complete 36 holes on day one followed by a final 18 holes in round three on Tuesday.

Now the competitors will play 36 holes Tuesday at the 6,103-yard, par-72 Stonebridge.

Sophomore Abby Franks led the charge through the first 18 holes for UNG. Her 3-over 75 in round one landed her a spot in the top 15 before the day was washed out.

Franks has been stellar this season for head coach Sierra Campbell and the Nighthawks. The second-year golfer out of Roebuck, S.C. has four top-15 finishes this season, including in three straight events. She has not finished worse than T-33rd in any competition this year.

Franks is poised for another good showing as her and UNG head out tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in the hopes of leap frogging up the leaderboard.
