No. 7 UNG Posts Season-High 95 Points In Win Over Reinhardt

DAHLONEGA – The No. 7 University of North Georgia women's basketball team ended the 2024 calendar year on a high note with a 95-52 win over Reinhardt at the UNG Convocation Center at Lynn Cottrell Arena Tuesday afternoon.

DAHLONEGA – The No. 7 University of North Georgia women's basketball team ended the 2024 calendar year on a high note with a 95-52 win over Reinhardt at the UNG Convocation Center at Lynn Cottrell Arena Tuesday afternoon.

The Nighthawks will ring in the new year with an 11-0 record after securing their largest win of the season thus far. UNG's 43-point margin of victory and 95 total points over the Eagles are the program's highest in a single-game for each category since a 103-point total, 65-point win over USC Beaufort in January of last season.

NAIA member Reinhardt succumbed to a UNG offense that had three players reach double figures Tuesday. The performance was highlighted by a 19-point, 10-rebound double double from graduate forward Emily Trushel

Trushel snared six offensive rebounds in her season high rebounding effort while going 7-for-17 from the floor. She added five assists to lead UNG while also plucking a trio of steals on defense.

Trushel was joined by senior guard Ansley Hall and graduate guard Caroline Martin in double figures.

Hall dominated the first half, scoring 15 of her 17 total points in the first 20 minutes. The Watkinsville, Ga. native tied a season-high by knocking down three triples in the first half. She also went 4-for-4 at the charity stripe and chipped in two steals defensively.

Martin posted 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting with three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

As a team, UNG tied a season-high with 10 steals in total. The Nighthawks forced 28 Eagles turnovers, leading to 39 points on the other end. UNG also tied season-high marks in three pointers made (12) and assists (24) while conceding a season-low 10 turnovers.

The Nighthawks were surgical from beyond the three-point line against Reinhardt as well. Going 12-for-27 from deep, UNG finished the game shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range. That mark is the highest in any game this season in which the Nighthawks have attempted 15 or more threes.

Hours after receiving the No. 7 ranking in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) coaches poll, the program's highest ranking since December of 2022, UNG's 43-point win serves as another feather in the cap for the Nighthawks this season.

At 11-0, UNG is one of only four remaining unbeaten teams (Fort Hays State, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Chowan) in NCAA Division II this year.

The Nighthawks will open play in 2025 with the Peach Belt Conference home opener on Saturday, January 4 against Flagler. Tip off against the Saints from the UNG Convocation Center is set for 1:30 p.m.
