PBC Announces 2025 Men's Basketball Tournament Bracket, UNG Earns Sixth Seed
DAHLONEGA – The Peach Belt Conference announced the 2025 PBC Men's Basketball Tournament bracket Sunday evening. Play begins on Wednesday, Mar. 5, with four quarterfinal games hosted on campus by the higher seed. The four winners from Wednesday will advance to the semifinals and finals held on Mar. 8 and 9, hosted by the highest remaining seed.
The University of North Georgia (UNG) men's basketball team has earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament after going 17-13 overall and 9-9 in league play.
Flagler, Lander and UNG all finished the season tied with 9-9 conference records and entered a three-way tiebreaker to decide seeding.
Per conference regulations, head-to-head results were examined first with all three teams splitting games against one another, leaving each at 2-2. Once still tied, the league office then reviews each team's records against the top-seeded team in the conference. All three teams went 0-2 against Columbus State so the review then moved to the next highest-seeded team, USC Aiken. Lander was the only one of the three squads to have a win over the Pacers, so the Bearcats earned the fifth seed.
The Nighthawks and Saints then faced off in a two-way tiebreaker. They split their regular-season meetings and neither had a win against top-seeded Columbus State or second-seeded USC Aiken. UNG defeated third-seeded Augusta back on Jan. 25 whereas Flagler went 0-2 against the Jaguars. Thus, the Nighthawks assumed the sixth seed while the Saints took the seventh seed.
UNG will travel to Augusta, Ga. and third-seeded Augusta (19-9, 13-5 Peach Belt) in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament on Wednesday, Mar. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
The winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal matchup will advance to play the winner between seventh-seeded Flagler (15-12, 9-9 Peach Belt) and second-seeded USC Aiken (20-8, 13-5 Peach Belt).
The Nighthawks went 1-1 against the Jaguars in the regular season. They took a 72-67 win at home against Augusta before the Jaguars rebounded with a 65-61 win in their building on Feb. 22.
The Nighthawks are seeking their second consecutive PBC Tournament title after winning the tournament for the first time in program history last season.
