No. 2 UNG Dominates Lees-McRae 4-0 In Scenic City Showcase
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The No. 2 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team took down Lees-McRae (LMC) 4-0 in its third match of the 2nd Annual Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase at the Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Nighthawks (8-4, 1-0 Peach Belt) rebounded from consecutive losses in the showcase with the dominating performance against the Bobcats (5-4, 1-0 Conference Carolinas).
In doubles, senior Angelina Linnikova and freshman Linn Goerdes teamed up for a 6-4 win in the #1 match.
Then in the #2 contest, UNG senior Ashley Moinard and freshman Vasilissa Kupriyanova pulled out a thrilling 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker) victory over LMC's Miranda Noor and Alexa Mazzei Lopez.
The Nighthawks did not lose a game in the singles portion of play as junior Emily Bush dominated the #5 showdown with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
Just minutes after Bush's victory, freshman Victoria Niox-Chateau defeated Caroline Brothers 6-2, 6-0 in the #6 singles competition.
At 3-0 overall, UNG needed just one win to clinch the match. Of course, it was senior Angelina Linnikova who would deliver for the Nighthawks.
The ITA women's singles No. 7-ranked Linnikova kept her undefeated streak (10-0) alive with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Patricia Vedia.
Linnikova's victory came just hours after she was crowned as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for a program-record fourth time this season.
Now UNG will finish the Scenic City Showcase tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11 with a p.m. showdown against Belmont Abbey.
