Stoudenmire Breaks Record, Wins 800-Meter Race At PBC Championship
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Junior Ella Stoudenmire made history as the Peach Belt Conference Championship Tuesday for the University of North Georgia women's track & field team. Stoudenmire was one of three Nighthawks to finish in the top-5 at the event held in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Back on Apr. 13, Stoudenmire broke the UNG women's track & field 800-meter record with a 2:12.57 time at the Electric City Invitational, finishing second in the event.
On Tuesday, she upped the ante. Stoudenmire blazed past the competition in the women's 800-meter in the championship, winning the event and finishing a full second ahead of the field.
She did so by breaking her own record and running a 2:12.03 time to reset the school record.
Not only did Stoudenmire re-write the record books, but her first place finish Tuesday marked back-to-back wins in the 800m race at the PBC Championship after she won the event last year. In all three years with the Nighthawks, Stoudenmire has finished on the podium in the 800m.
Joining her on the podium at the PBC Championship was junior Anna Chasteen who finished third in the women's 3000m steeple race. She ran an 11:21.32 time, finishing just ahead of senior teammate Claire Mills who came in fourth at 11:23.84.
As a team UNG also finished in fourth in both the women's 4 x 400-meter relay and the 4 x 100-meter relay.
The Nighthawks have one more meet left this season as they're slated to run in the Lee Last Chance Meet in Cleveland, Tenn. The competition takes place Saturday, May 11.
