Earnhardt Named PBC Pitcher of the Week
DAHLONEGA -- University of North Georgia (UNG) No. 16 baseball starting pitcher Luke Earnhardt has been named as the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after a stellar outing in a win over Flagler on Saturday.
The weekly honor comes as the first of Earnhardt's career. The redshirt sophomore becomes the second Nighthawk pitcher to be named the top arm of the week in the conference this season. UNG has now been awarded a weekly award from the PBC nine times this season, far more than any other school in the league.
In UNG's second shutout of the season, a 4-0 victory over Flagler on Saturday, Earnhardt twirled eight scoreless innings to help the Nighthawks win their seventh PBC series of the year.
He only allowed three hits and two walks in the outing while striking out seven batters. He decreased his team-best earned run average to 3.36 which also ranks sixth in the conference. At 8-1 on the season, Earnhardt now has the most wins of any Peach Belt pitcher this year and seventh-most among all pitcher nationally.
Earnhardt and the Nighthawks will hit the field at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park again tomorrow, Tuesday, Apr. 15 for a 5 p.m. showdown with Emmanuel.
