DAHLONEGA – The No. 8 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's basketball team ended another historic regular season with a 92-67 win over Clayton State at Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center on Saturday.

The Nighthawks end the regular season with a 26-2 (16-2 Peach Belt) record, marking the second time in program history UNG has had a 26-2 record through 28 games.

With postseason play still on the docket, the Nighthawks have already completed the 12th 26-win season in program history. At 16-2 in conference play, UNG has also now won 16 or more conference games for the fifth time in program history, all of which have come in the last eight years.

The 25-point victory marked the team's 11th 20-point win of the year which is the most in a season since 2018-19 when the Nighthawks did it 17 times en route to a 30-5 season and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance. A staggering nine of those wins have come against league opponents.

Saturday marked Senior Day for North Georgia in which the Nighthawks celebrated seniors Livi Blackstock, Dasha Cannon, Carly Fahey, Ansley Hall and Emily Trushel.

On Saturday, head coach Buffie Burson trotted out an all-senior starting lineup to celebrate her veteran players.

Two of the celebrated seniors reached double figures in the game while everyone Nighthawk that saw action scored at least one basket.

Trushel led the senior scoring with 21 points while flirting with a triple-double as she also corralled eight rebounds and dished out five assists. Trushel went 7-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-4 from downtown in the game. Saturday marked Trushel's ninth game this season with three or made three pointers.

Hall dropped 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting with a game-high nine assists in the win. Hall has now dished out six or more assists in 11 games this season. Her season-long average of 4.7 assists per game leads the team. In the last seven games she's averaged 6.7 helpers per contest.

Another veteran in graduate guard Caroline Martin kept her eight-game double-digit scoring streak alive with 10 points against the Lakers.

Despite it being senior day, a freshman stole the show for UNG in the 25-point victory. Freshman guard Averie Jones scored a game-high 23 points as she knocked down five three pointers. She also snared a game-high 10 rebounds to record the first double-double of her career. It also marked her fifth 20-point game of her debut season.

As a team UNG went 13-for-27 (48.1 percent) from deep range, marking the squads best three-point shooting performance against a conference foe this season. The Nighthawks appear to be heating up at the right time as three of their top six three-point shooting performances against conference opponents this season have come in the last five games.

As the regular season PBC Champions, UNG has the top seed in the upcoming PBC Women's Basketball Tournament. The Nighthawks will host eighth-seeded Clayton State at Lynn Cottrell Arena on Wednesday, Mar. 5 at 5 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
