Martin Named PBC Player of the Week For Fourth Time This Year
DAHLONEGA -- No. 9 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's basketball graduate guard Caroline Martin has been announced as the Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Martin had a big week for No. 9 UNG as the Nighthawks picked up three wins, the last of which secured their fifth Peach Belt Conference Regular Season Championship in program history.
Against Georgia Southwestern on Monday, Martin dropped a game-high 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the floor with an 8-for-9 performance at the free throw line. She also had a team-high seven rebounds.
In a rematch with the Hurricanes on Wednesday, Martin tied a game-high with 16 points while adding four rebounds, five assists and going 8-for-8 at the line in the 26-point win. In the game Martin surpassed 1,652 career points to move up to third in program history on the NCAA Division II scoring era list.
On Saturday against Augusta, she posted another game-high 25 points as she knocked down four three-pointers and also grabbed six boards. In three games Martin averaged 21.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She shot 50 percent (9-for-18) from downtown and 86.2 percent (25-for-29).
Martin is the first player in program history to be named the PBC Player of the Week four times in a season. She previously won the award on Nov. 18, Jan. 13 and Feb. 3.
UNG has now had three different players win the award a total of six times this year, the most in one season in program history.
Martin and the Nighthawks take the floor again on Wednesday in Aiken, S.C. with a chance to win the outright PBC Regular Season Championship. Tip off against USC Aiken is set for 5:30 p.m.
