Martin, Trushel Named 2025 WBCA All-Americans
DAHLONEGA – The No. 6 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's basketball team had a pair of Nighthawks represent the program on the 2025 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II All-American Team.
Graduate guard Caroline Martin was named to the All-American team, marking the second WBCA national postseason honor of her career after she was named an All-American honorable mention in 2023. Graduate forward Emily Trushel earned the first All-American honor of her career as she was named a WBCA All-American honorable mention.
This latest honor adds to Martin's laundry list of accolades from the 2025 season.
Within the Peach Belt Conference, Martin was named the 2025 PBC Player of the Year, while also earning spots on the PBC All-Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team. She became the second player in PBC history to win Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year Awards in career and the seventh in conference history to be named all-conference four times.
Through the regular season, Martin made headlines seemingly every week as she was a four-time PBC Player of the Week, earning the most weekly honors in one season in program history.
Martin dominated in all facets on the floor in the regular season ranking second in the league in points, field goal percentage and field goals made. Martin also ranked third in points per game, steals, three pointers made and free throws made while also sitting top-6 in defensive rebounds per game and assists.
Her efforts also earned her the title as the 2025 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Southeast Region Player of the Year and a spot on the Southeast All-Region Team.
Martin took her momentum from the regular season into the NCAA Tournament and posted three outstanding performances in UNG's run to the Southeast Regional Championship. She averaged a double-double with 20 points per game and 10.3 rebounds while also adding 5.7 assists and 2.3 steals. She led the nation in total assists (17) in the regional round and ranked fourth in total rebounds. She was named to the Southeast Regional All-Tournament Team for the trio of outstanding performances
For Trushel, this marks the first All-American honor of the Brentwood, Tenn. native's career.
At 14.5 points per game, 5.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists on the season, Trushel's list of accolades also puts strain on the printer ink.
Trushel's year was headlined by a career-high 33-point performance against USC Beaufort back on Feb. 15. In the win, Trushel went 10-for-14 from the field, 6-for-9 from three-point range and 7-for-7 at the stripe in what was the second-highest scoring performance in the conference this year.
At the conclusion of the regular season she also earned a spot on the 2025 PBC All-Conference First Team for the third conference postseason acclaim in her career. Trushel finished the season ranked second in the league in three pointers made and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.57), third in assists, assists per game and field goals made, fourth in points and sixth in rebounds.
With 26 points on 9-of-10 shooting and six three pointers in the PBC Tournament Championship game, Trushel earned a spot on the 2025 PBC All-Tournament team as well.
Trushel established herself as arguably the best all-around shooter in the country this season. The 5-foot-10 forward shot 46.2 percent from deep range this year which ranked second in NCAA Division II. She also knocked down 88.8 percent of her free throws which was 13th in the country. Finally, Trushel converted on 50.7 percent of all field goal attempts this year, ranking 44th nationally. She led the conference in all three shooting categories, accomplishing one of the rarest achievements in the sport.
With Martin and Trushel both securing spots on this year's WBCA All-American team, this marks the first season since 2016 in which the Nighthawks had two players named in the WBCA Postseason awards.
