No. 6 Nighthawks Roll To 5-2 Win At LMU To Start Season
HARROGATE, Tenn. – The No. 6 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team opened the 2025 season with a 5-2 win on the road at Lincoln Memorial.
The Nighthawks, coming off a program best 25-2 season last year, resumed their winning ways in the first match of the season against the Railsplitters.
The victory started as UNG won the doubles point by winning the #1 and #2 doubles matches. In the #1 doubles slot, seniors Angelina Linnikova and Carolina Reis dominated their opponent for an easy 6-1 win.
Then senior Ashley Moinard and freshman Linn Goerdes teamed up to win the #2 doubles match 6-4, clinching the point for the Nighthawks.
UNG added four wins in the singles matches to secure the victory. No. 4 Linnikova cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over LMU's Adriana Pellizzari to open the season with a win.
In the #3 singles match, Reis took down Mia Rodriguez comfortably 6-2, 6-1 to earn her first singles victory of the season and fourth of her career. Reis competed in just four singles matches last season for UNG.
Goerdes helped clinch the match in the #6 singles competition with a 6-0, 6-1 win in her first career collegiate singles match.
The Nighthawks also added a win in the #5 singles match from junior transfer Emily Bush. The Cartersville, Ga. native joined UNG this season after transferring from nearby Young Harris last fall.
UNG will look to continue its winning way in front of a home crowd at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek for its home opener against Young Harris this Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 12:30 p.m.
