No. 6 UNG Handles Young Harris 6-1 In Home Opener

DAHLONEGA – The No. 6 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team dominated in-state rival Young Harris (YH) for a 6-1 victory in the team's home opener at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek on Tuesday.

The Nighthawks rode to an early point after winning all three doubles matches to get the competition started.

In singles, ITA women's singles No. 4 senior Angelina Linnikova handled YH's Simone Mercier for a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Senior Ashley Moinard snagged her first singles win of the season in the #2 spot with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Viviana Gomez Lopez.

Freshman Vasilissa Kupriyanova earned the first singles win of her collegiate career as well on Tuesday. Kupriyanova did not participate in UNG's match on Sunday at Lincoln Memorial, but she easily took down Futaba Saito 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday to secure her first career victory.

At #4 singles freshman Linn Goerdes moved to 2-0 on the year with a 6-2, 6-1 win. 

Senior Carolina Reis secured the sixth and final point for the Nighthawks in the #5 singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 stellar performance. 

Now UNG will get ready for another home match this weekend against Erskine. First serve from the UNG Tennis Complex takes place on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.
