No. 9 Nighthawks Dominate On The Road At Lander
GREENWOOD, S.C. – The No. 9 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team took down Lander on the road 6-1 on Friday in its third Peach Belt Conference match of the season.
The Nighthawks (11-6, 2-1 Peach Belt) kept the Bearcats (8-8, 0-4 Peach Belt) winless in conference play with a convincing victory behind a doubles victory and near sweep in singles.
Junior Emily Bush and freshman Linn Goerdes tallied the first doubles win of the day in the #2 match with a comfortable 6-1 victory.
Senior Ashley Moinard then paired up with freshman Vasilissa Kupriyanova for a 6-3 win in the #3 slot to clinch the early doubles point.
Senior and Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) women's singles No. 2 Angelina Linnikova remained unbeaten in singles (15-0) with an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory in #1 singles over Mille Elsborg.
Kupriyanova also snagged a win in the #3 contest 6-4, 7-5 against Maria Jose Zarza while senior Carolina Reis rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the #6 singles competition.
In the #4 singles match, Goerdes collected her 10th win of the season via a 6-3, 6-1 victory. She is second on the team in singles victories on the year.
Bush finalized the overall match in the #5 singles contest with a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7 tiebreaker) win to solidify the 6-1 victory for her team.
UNG now heads to Rome, Ga. for a neutral site contest against No. 17 West Alabama on Tuesday, April 8 at 2 p.m.
