No. 6 Nighthawks Move To 5-0 With Road Win At Newberry
NEWBERRY, S.C. – The No.6 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 road victory at Newberry on Monday.
UNG is now 5-0 on the season and has not conceded more than two points to any opponent in a match this year.
On Monday the Nighthawks rolled right through the Wolves in the doubles point as no duo for Newberry won more than three points in their respective match.
UNG continued its domination in singles.
Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week and ITA No. 4 women's singles player Angelina Linnikova rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the #1 singles match. Linnikova is now 61-19 in 80 singles games this season. She has not lost one set in a singles match to date.
The Nighthawks also racked up wins in #2 singles from senior Ashley Moinard, #3 singles from freshman Vasilissa Kupriyanova, #4 singles from freshman Linn Goerdes and #5 singles from junior Emily Bush.
The squad will now get ready to head to Indianapolis, Ind. for the ITA Indoor Championships. The event hosts the top eight teams in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings.
UNG will play in three matches over three days in the event which begins on Friday, Feb. 21. The Nighthawks' first opponent is a familiar one as they'll take on No. 7 Flagler at 8 a.m. on Friday.
